Dear Figures Family,
My name is Staci aka “Riki” White, I won the Team Figures MEP Challenge for the month of April 2020 and Nicole asked me to share what motivated me to earn 10,249 MEPS.
The challenge could not have come at a more perfect time for me. Before Covid-19 reared its UGLY head, I was a stay-at-home empty nester that took care of her grandkids several times a week and supported her small business owner husband. I kept pretty busy just keeping up with life. The one thing that I did for myself, was workout at Figures 24/7 about five days a week.
I have battled with depression since my children were young. For a short period of time, I took anti-depressants. This helped to remove the “black cloud” as they say, but I never felt like myself. The pills helped, I wasn’t sad all of the time, but I also wasn’t happy. I read that exercise increased the release of dopamine and serotonin, our feel good brain chemicals. I started to work out regularly and felt better, almost immediately! I was able to stop taking anti-depressants shortly after.
Although, completely aware that exercise was the magic pill I needed, I had a hard time sticking to the regime on my own. That’s why a gym like Figures is so important for me! But then…COVID!!!
The MEP Challenge looked interesting to me, I even teased with Nicole that I was going to win! But to be honest, I wondered if I would be able to stick to it since I would have to workout alone for the most part. I am lucky enough to have an amazing husband who will work out with me occasionally but he definitely doesn’t do it regularly. I would do one of the workouts posted by our trainers or maybe walk with my husband after dinner. It was very satisfying to see those MEPs add up and to see all of the colors on the graph! It truly felt like several of the ladies were right there with me, because they would post what workouts they were doing and we would give a thumbs up or write encouraging words to each other. The challenge made me realize that I wasn’t alone! Eventually I started to add more cardio like running or biking and then the points really started to rack up.
If you haven’t signed up for the May My Zone Challenge, I highly recommend that you do. It’s like free therapy!
I am looking forward to seeing you all in person at the gym soon! Until then, sweat your worries away!
